Gunnison Valley Health to Continue Free Community COVID Testing

As of June 30, County COVID testing will be discontinued. Throughout the pandemic, Gunnison Valley Health supported this service with staff and facilities. As COVID continues and the Delta variant becomes more prevalent in Mesa County, Gunnison Valley Health has made the commitment to continue free testing for the community beginning in early to mid-July.

Gunnison Valley Health CEO Rob Santilli said that the health system is making the commitment to continue testing to give Gunnison County providers the time they need to establish long term infrastructure for ongoing COVID testing.

“We continue to meet with Joni Reynolds to discuss the needs of the Gunnison Valley during this ongoing pandemic,” Santilli said. “Community testing was identified as an area that would experience a gap after June 30 and an area where we believe we can meet the immediate need. Hiring in the current environment will be the biggest challenge.”

Gunnison Valley Health is currently working on finalizing processes and anticipate that testing will resume in early July. More information will be posted here as details are finalized.

“We want to do everything we can to make this transition in testing as easy as possible for our community,” Santilli said. “We appreciate everyone’s patience while we work to resume this important service.”

In the interim, anyone experiencing symptoms and in need of immediate testing should contact their primary care provider. Individuals are also able to purchase a COVID self-test kit from local retailers. If you have had a known exposure to COVID-19, please contact Gunnison County Public Health at (970) 641-0209.
