Gunnison Valley Health’s Mammography Team has once again demonstrated the highest standards in breast imaging by receiving accreditation through the American College of Radiology (ACR) in Mammography.
Gunnison Valley Health’s diagnostic radiologist and breast imaging specialist, Dr. Karien Campbell, M.D., said the triennial accreditation entailed a 45-day process which ended with a successful completion at the end of February.
“Receiving ACR accreditation is the gold standard in breast imaging,” Dr. Campbell said. “It demonstrates that our radiology technologists here at Gunnison Valley Health produce the same level of high quality imaging compared to any major breast imaging center in the country.”
During the accreditation process, Dr. Campbell and Kayla Schulze, mammography technologist, submitted a total of 16 clinical images from four different tests. ACR used its Clinical Image Review to ensure all 16 images met quality standards in eight distinct areas. This rigorous process not only ensures images are error-free, but validates staff qualifications, equipment, quality control and quality assurance.
Board certified and newly appointed medical director for the Diagnostic Imaging Department, Dr. Karl Hasselbach, M.D., said achieving the ACR mammography accreditation is not an easy process.
“This accreditation is a credit to Dr. Campbell and Kayla’s level of precision and compliance to adhere to strict mammography standards,” Dr. Hasselbach said. “As an essential service to the Gunnison Valley, it signifies that our facility provides the highest level of excellence in breast imaging and for that, we are very proud of this achievement.”
Dr. Hasselbach has recently joined Gunnison Valley Health to oversee the medical direction of the Diagnostic Imaging Department. Although fellowship trained in breast imaging, Dr. Hasselbach is looking forward to reviewing a variety of different cases and enhancing our breast imaging services.
“I’m excited about the opportunity to connect and build a relationship with the Gunnison Valley community, and with the support of Dr. Campbell, provide a continuum of care to our patients,” he said.
