Gunnison Valley Health Announces Sara Dobie, RN, as DAISY Award Recipient for Extraordinary Nursing Care

Gunnison Valley Health is proud to announce Sara Dobie, RN, as the latest recipient of the prestigious DAISY Award, which recognizes exceptional nurses who provide extraordinary, compassionate care to their patients and families.

Sara’s exemplary nursing skills and dedication to patient care were highlighted in her nomination, which described her quick thinking, clear communication and calm demeanor in a challenging situation. The nomination detailed her actions when a post-surgical patient experienced unexpected complications. Sara acted swiftly to escalate care by coordinating with anesthesia, the surgeon and other medical staff to ensure the patient received appropriate treatment, ultimately facilitating a transfer to a higher level of care.

Her ability to remain organized and composed under pressure, while ensuring the patient and their family were well-informed and supported, was commended.

A patient shared their appreciation for Sara’s care, recounting her skill and expertise during a recent surgery:

“Sara has been my nurse in my previous two visits to the surgery unit. She provided exemplary care in both circumstances, one where I had to be flown out. Yesterday I was there for a procedure, and she put in my IV. I have had many IVs in the past and am a hard stick, usually with many tries. Sara put in my IV with no pain and no bruise on the first try. That was invaluable to me. Thank you, Sara, for your great care.”

The DAISY Award, established by the DAISY Foundation, is an international recognition program that honors nurses for the outstanding difference they make in the lives of patients and their families. Sara’s recognition reflects the dedication and skill that Gunnison Valley Health nurses bring to their work every day.
