Breaking Barriers to Lifesaving Screenings
Gunnison Tough, Living Journeys and the Gunnison Valley Health (GVH) Foundation have joined forces to create the Cancer Screening Access Fund—a transformative initiative designed to improve access to essential cancer screenings for individuals in our community. This partnership underscores the power of collaboration in promoting health equity, fostering early detection and providing compassionate support to those who need it most.
About the Fund
The Cancer Screening Access Fund is a $75,000 resource for 2025, made possible through equal contributions of $25,000 from each organization. The fund is dedicated to covering the costs of prostate, colon, lung and uterine cancer screenings, offering up to $2,000 per applicant. This initiative aims to ease financial barriers for underinsured and uninsured community members, ensuring access to potentially lifesaving care.
The dedicated Gunnison Tough Screening Program continues to provide comprehensive breast screening support at GVH utilizing over $1.1 million in state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment generously donated by Gunnison Tough.
Why It Matters
Early detection of cancer is critical—it saves lives. However, financial barriers often prevent individuals from seeking timely screenings. This fund bridges that gap, providing hope and access to care for our neighbors.
