Gold Standard of Testing
Pulmonary Functions Tests (PFTs) determine the functionality of your lungs. The test is performed in a plethysmography box by a respiratory therapist. This is the gold standard in lung testing. They can determine the lungs’ ability to move air in and out and oxygenate your body.
PFTs can be done to establish a baseline number. They can also be performed later to establish if any lung damage exists.
PFTs can be used for athletes, firefighters, children, or older adults who have a need to examine lung capacity. It can also be used for firefighters with recent smoke inhalation, patients affected by COPD or other lung disease, or after an avalanche burial.
