Gunnison Valley Health is proud to be the official health care provider
for Western Colorado University - covering all NCAA sports as well as
the cheer team and mountain sports.
Staff Dedicated to the Athletes
Gunnison Valley Health supports over 425 athletes, with four certified
athletic trainers, one head athletic trainer, as well as two certified
sports performance coaches (CSCS). We are also proud to have our very
own Dr. Blake Clifton as the Medical Director for Western Colorado University.
Our athletic trainers cover every home sporting event and practice - working
many long hours to make sure all Mountaineer Athletes are as safe as possible.
Seamless Coordinated Care
The physical therapists are present in the training room at least twice
a week to ensure all athletes are receiving the best possible care.
Gunnison Valley Health physical therapists also coordinate with athletic
trainers to establish correct return to play protocols. These protocols
ensure all athletes stay healthy throughout the season.
The Gunnison Valley Health staff is collecting and analyzing a variety
of health and performance data to help coaches effectively manage athlete
training. The data allows coaches to optimize performance and minimize
injuries throughout an athlete’s career.
