Gunnison Valley Health Statement on the No Surprises Act

Gunnison Valley Health is committed to providing transparent, high-quality care to our patients while complying with all applicable laws and regulations. We want to inform our patients, employees and visitors that our facility fully adheres to the federal No Surprises Act.

The No Surprises Act, which went into effect on January 1, 2022, is part of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021. This landmark legislation aims to protect patients from unexpected medical bills and improve transparency in healthcare pricing. Key provisions of the Act include:

  1. Protection against surprise billing for emergency services: Patients cannot be billed more than in-network cost-sharing amounts for emergency care, even if they receive treatment at an out-of-network facility or from out-of-network providers.
  2. Prohibition of balance billing for certain non-emergency services: For scheduled procedures at in-network facilities, patients cannot be balance billed by out-of-network providers they did not choose, such as anesthesiologists or radiologists.
  3. Requirement for good faith estimates: Healthcare providers must provide uninsured or self-pay patients with good faith estimates of expected charges for scheduled services.
  4. Establishment of an independent dispute resolution process: The Act creates a framework for resolving payment disputes between providers and insurers without involving patients.
  5. Enhanced provider directory requirements: Health plans must keep their provider directories up to date to help patients identify in-network providers.

In compliance with the No Surprises Act, Gunnison Valley Health:

  1. Provides clear, upfront information about in-network and out-of-network coverage.
  2. Offers good faith estimates of expected charges for scheduled services.
  3. Does not engage in balance billing for emergency services or certain services provided by out-of-network providers at in-network facilities.
  4. Participates in the independent dispute resolution process when necessary.

Our patients can expect to receive care without the fear of surprise medical bills. We are dedicated to ensuring that all billing practices are fair, transparent, and in full compliance with the No Surprises Act.

For more information about your rights under the No Surprises Act or our billing practices, please contact our billing department.

Gunnison Valley Health remains committed to providing exceptional care while prioritizing transparency and fairness in all our operations.
